SPECIAL SHARING SESSION ON CARBON MANAGEMENT FOR TILTING FUTURES AT CGSS APPRENTICESHIP

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, 22th July 2026 - The Centre for Global Sustainability Studies (CGSS), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) hosted a special sharing session on “Carbon Management” for the new cohort of international apprentices under the TILTING FUTURES programme at CGSS, USM. The programme is coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr Ng Theam Foo, Deputy Director of CGSS, USM.

The session was led by CGSS Chief Research Officer, Mrs. Sharifah Nurlaili Farhana Syed Azhar, who provided the apprentices with a comprehensive overview of greenhouse gas emissions, carbon accounting methodologies, and practical campus reduction strategies. Key areas covered included energy efficiency, sustainable transport, and waste management.

The apprentices, representing various countries, also explored how universities can effectively measure and act on their carbon footprint while contributing meaningfully to global climate goals. This initiative reflects USM’s ongoing commitment to empowering young sustainability leaders and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Climate Action (SDG 13) and Quality Education (SDG 4)CGSS looks forward to witnessing these changemakers translate their learning into impactful action on campus and beyond.
