Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, 8 May 2026 — Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) continues to solidify its role as a national sustainability leader through the Centre for Global Sustainability Studies (CGSS) by establishing high-impact strategic collaborations with Malaysia’s key industry partners under the Net-Zero Greenhouse Gas Consortium (NGGC) platform. Through close synergy between Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and its strategic industry partners, the Net-Zero Greenhouse Gas Consortium (NGGC) serves as a catalyst for national transformation by integrating academic expertise with the implementation capabilities of the industrial sector. This collaboration not only accelerates the development of innovative solutions in carbon emission management but also strengthens the transfer of knowledge, technology, and best practices towards a low-carbon economy.
This initiative, led by the Centre for Global Sustainability Studies (CGSS), reflects an integrated commitment between the university and industry to advance the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda, while driving systemic changes in the nation’s sustainable development landscape. Among the distinguished guests present were the Patron of the Net-Zero Greenhouse Gas Consortium (NGGC), Dato’ Seri Sr. Haji Rozali Haji Mohamud; the Director of the Centre for Global Sustainability Studies (CGSS), Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Wira Mohd Shafiei; and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NGGC, Mr. Ng Choon Chuan.
The Net-Zero Greenhouse Gas Consortium (NGGC) also welcomes strategic collaborations from government agencies, the corporate sector, higher education institutions, and civil society organizations to further strengthen the implementation of the national sustainability and climate resilience agenda.
