Forum On Social Innovation To Spur Community Engagement
KYOTO, 26 September 2017 – One of the programmes held at the 5th University-Community Engagement Conference (UCEC) 2017 here was a forum entitled "Leadership in University-Community Engagement".
Moderated by Tuan Syed Yusof Syed Kechik and Professor Dato' Dr. Aileen Tan Shau Hwai, the forum was organised in two sessions, with the first session focusing on the understanding of ‘leadership’ in the context of university-community engagement, definition of community engagement and volunteerism. It was followed by a case study, which shared on real-time examples of community engagement and volunteerism. Close to 30 participants attended the forum. Read more..

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) was the second university established in Malaysia in 1969. At present, USM has approximately 30,000 students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate levels at its 17 Academic Schools on the main campus in the island of Penang (240 hectares); 6 Schools at the Engineering Campus in Nibong Tebal which is approximately 50km from the main campus; and 3 Schools at the Health Campus in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan which is approximately 300km from the main campus. USM policy includes a whole system approach which involves four major domains of focus; teaching, research, community engagement and institutional arrangement. USM, PENANG, 31 May 2016 – The World Health Organisation (WHO) has designated 31 May each year as the ‘World No Tobacco Day’. The theme which has been decided by WHO this year is ‘Get Ready for Plain Packaging’.
