Introductory Session on Green Project Management (GPM) 


On Sunday November 18, 2018, Mr. Brian Cracknell of Language Works conducted an introductory session on Green Project Management (GPM) for our Master in Sustainable Development Practice (MSDP) students in Kuala Lumpur. In his session, he briefed students about the definition and implications of GPM. Green Project Management is designed to improve project management competence and realize greater benefits from projects by using sustainable practices. GPM aims to increase the individual's value as both a reflective practitioner and project manager.



Sejahtera Green Carnival 



Sejahtera Green Carnival has been successfully held on 31 October 2018 at SMK Permatang Tok Jaya, Penang. The programme was organised by the Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development (RCE ESD) Penang, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) through the Regional Sejahtera ESD Network (RSEN) and co-organized with SMK Permatang Tok Jaya, Penang. The programme aimed at providing an early and comprehensive exposure through education to the concept of sustainability (ESD) in the local ecosphere. Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dato' Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, the former USM Vice Chancellor and a sustainability enthusiast was invited to deliver his keynote address.  WSU101 students coordinated by Dr. Mohd Sayuti Hassan was also invited to showcase their sustainability related project to the local community.

A discussion on Penang Structural Plan 2030 has been successfully organized on 12 October 2018. The discussion, chaired by Penang Deputy Chief Minister 1, Dato' Ir. Ahmad Zakiyuddin Ahmad Rahman and attended by  CGSS Deputy Director was to discuss on the progress of the structural planning for both Penang island and the mainland.

A meeting was held between CGSS with UPEN Perlis on 27 March 2018 at UPEN Perlis, Kangar, Perlis. The meeting was to discuss on sustainability-related projects which could help the government to solve issues in Perlis. Present at the meeting were the Deputy Director of CGSS, Dr Mohd Sayuti Hassan and the Principle Assistant Director (Macro) of UPEN Perlis, Madam Sanisah Sarnuji.



USM, represented by CGSS & Gabungan Anak Pulau Pinang Association (GAPP USM)  has been invited to join a community programme "Program Bakti Siswa Jalinan Kasih Balik Pulau", co-organized by Student Development Affairs & Alumni Division (BHEPA USM) and GAPP USM. The programme, held on 30 March to 1 April 2018 at Pulau Betong, Balik Pulau, Penang was launched by the Deputy Minister of Health Malaysia, Dato' Seri Dr. Hilmi Bin Haji Yahaya. GAPP, as the secretariat, helped to conduct several activities such as cleaning the village, and kids games, and many more. The students also helped the villagers to prepare food for the programme. The programme is one of the initatives in giving the opportunity to USM students to help the community outside the campus.
